At 5,440 ft, the thinner air forces HVAC systems to work harder. We tune every system for Colorado altitude — most chain techs don’t.

Lakewood, CO — local facts
Furnace Repair in Lakewood: what’s different here
Lakewood’s own design basis for HVAC work is a 1°F winter design temperature (Climate Zone 5), and many of its post-war homes still run on original-era ductwork.
Cold load
January lows average 21.1°F in Lakewood and the design temperature is 1°F. Igniters, flame sensors and inducer motors that limp through October fail on the first real cold snap.
House age
Roughly 56% of Lakewood homes were built before 1980. In homes this age we regularly find undersized return air, original ductwork and flue pipes that need checking along with the furnace itself.
Gas service
Xcel Energy supplies gas here. Xcel’s gas furnace rebates ended on Jan. 1, 2026, so repair versus replace is now a straight cost comparison.
Hytek pricing
Furnace Repair: $150 – $1,200+. Flat-rate, approved before work starts. Free estimates on replacements.
Elevation & climate
5,530 ft. Avg January low 21.1°F, avg July high 85.9°F, design temp 1°F, about 58 in of snow a year.
Homes
Roughly 56% of Lakewood homes were built before 1980 (median year built 1977).
Utilities
Electric: Xcel Energy. Gas: Xcel Energy.
Permits
City of Lakewood Building Division. Permits run through eTRAKiT, and HVAC contractors register with the city as Class C Mechanical Contractors.
Rebates and programs for Lakewood homeowners (2026)
Power Ahead Colorado: $1,500 off a new ENERGY STAR cold-climate heat pump (ducted or ductless) in an existing home. Needs pre-approval through a Power Ahead-badged contractor before work starts; stacks with utility and state incentives. Source
Lakewood residents can get a free Home Energy Squad Plus visit through the city (blower-door test, infrared scan and combustion safety check).
Colorado heat pump tax credit: $1,000 for air-source systems in 2026, claimed by a registered contractor who must pass at least a third to you as an invoice discount.
Our published range is $150 – $1,200+. Every Hytek job is quoted flat-rate and approved before work begins, so the price you agree to is the price you pay. Replacements get free in-home estimates; see the full HVAC cost guide for the other services.
Do I need a permit for HVAC work in Lakewood?
Repairs generally do not. Replacing or installing a furnace, AC, heat pump or water heater does. Permits for Lakewood addresses go through City of Lakewood Building Division. Permits run through eTRAKiT, and HVAC contractors register with the city as Class C Mechanical Contractors. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection.
What HVAC rebates are available in Lakewood in 2026?
For heat pumps: Xcel Energy’s 2026 heat pump rebates (the largest bonus goes to homes replacing gas heat); the $1,500 Power Ahead Colorado rebate (pre-approval required); Colorado’s $1,000 air-source heat pump credit, at least a third of which the installer must pass to you as a line-item discount. Lakewood residents can get a free Home Energy Squad Plus visit through the city (blower-door test, infrared scan and combustion safety check). Xcel’s gas furnace rebates ended Jan. 1, 2026, and the federal 25C credit does not apply to 2026 installs.
Is it safe to run my Lakewood furnace if it keeps short-cycling?
Short-cycling usually means a dirty flame sensor, a clogged filter or an overheating heat exchanger tripping the limit switch. The first two are cheap fixes; the third can be a carbon monoxide risk. If it cycles in under five minutes repeatedly, shut it off and call us. We test combustion and CO on every furnace repair call.
Who provides gas and electricity in Lakewood?
Electric: Xcel Energy. Gas: Xcel Energy. That matters because rebates, operating costs and who you call about a gas leak all depend on the utility.
Does Hytek serve my part of Lakewood?

Local data: U.S. Census Bureau (2025 population estimates; ACS 2020–2024 housing age), NOAA 1991–2020 climate normals, and city, county and utility program pages, checked September 2026. Rebates change; we confirm eligibility on your address when we quote.
